I Have Been a Hole

​I have been a hole
among the holes
of a porous stone

and have felt
the water and wind
pass through me

but I have not come
to understand
what passage means.

I have been a branch
among the branches
of a tree

and have seen
the seasons change
all around me

but I have not come
to understand
what seasons mean.

It is time for me
to be a stone
to be a tree

but I do not
understand
what time means.
