On Time

(Found here)

“Too few hours in the day
to do what needs to be done,”

the novices were complaining.
“There’s ministering to the sick

and tending to the poor.
There are children to be taught,

disputes to be settled, and work
to be done in the barns and fields,

to say nothing of prayer
and reading and meditation.

We hardly have time to sleep!”
So I decided to help them.

I removed all the hands from
all the clocks in the abbey

and said, “There, now you
have all the time in the world.”

~Robert Hudson (from The Father Zosima Poems)
