The Blood of Christ

The Lord God opens my ear that I may hear;
   And I have not rebelled,
have not turned back.
   I gave my back to those who beat me,
my cheeks to those who plucked my beard;
   My face I did not shield
from buffets and spitting.
   The Lord God is my help,
therefore I am not disgraced;
   I have set my face like flint,
knowing that I shall not be put to shame.

~Isaiah 50:4b-7

See, my servant shall prosper,
   he shall be raised high and greatly exalted.
Even as many were amazed at him—
   so marred was his look beyond that of man,
   and his appearance beyond that of mortals—
So shall he startle many nations,
   because of him kings shall stand speechless;
For those who have not been told shall see,
   those who have not heard shall ponder it.

~Isaiah 52:13-15

Realize that you were delivered from the futile way of life your fathers handed on to you, not by any diminishable sum of silver or gold, but by Christ’s blood beyond all price: the blood of a spotless, unblemished lamb chosen before the world’s foundation and revealed for your sake in these last days. It is through him that you are believers in God, the God who raised him from the dead and gave him glory. Your faith and hope, then, are centered in God.

~1 Peter 1:18-21

There is a fountain filled with blood drawn from Emmanuel’s veins;
And sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains.
Lose all their guilty stains, lose all their guilty stains;
And sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains.
