Cantique de Jean Racine
“Hymn of Jean Racine”
Word equal to the Most High,
Our unique hope, eternal day of the earth and the heavens,
We break the silence of the peaceful night;
Divine Saviour, cast Your eyes upon us.
Spread out over us the fire of Your mighty grace;
That all hell may flee at the sound of Your voice;
Dispel the slumber of a weary soul,
That leads it to the forgetting of Your laws!
O Christ, be favorable to this faithful people,
Now gathered to bless You;
Receive the hymns it offers to Your immortal glory,
And may it return laden with Your gifts.
