On Prayer 1
(Found here) |
“Father, how should I pray?”
and I say to them, listen—first
there is something you should know.
There was a man once
who had shells instead of ears
and night and day he heard
nothing but the waves of the sea.
And there was a woman once
who had stars for eyes
that could see forever in the dark—
but only in the dark.
And there was a child once
whose heart was a raging fire
and all it could do was burn
and leap upward with every beat.
Beyond that you don’t need me
to tell you anything.
Just stand at the window
and lean your head out.
Let the mind be as strong
and invisible as wind.
And just pray. Just pray.
Then see what happens.
