When Devotion Meets Difficulty
(Resurrection by Jeltje Hoogenkamp) |
“Death has been dealt with decisively, definitively. This is the message of Easter. The resurrection calls for celebration….When your devotion meets a difficulty, it is time to trust, not give up, to keep thinking ahead, not turn back. When life tries to shatter your hopes, mire you in the spirit of defeat…, then remember your Savior, assert your soul, declare your faith and act out your devotion. When your devotion meets difficulty, look at that difficulty in the light of Easter. The Easter event is the key to meaning when you and I are beset by misery. It is the ladder of hope by which to rise up from things that horrify. Easter gives us reason to worship, to celebrate God, as Job did, when things become worse. When your devotion meets with difficulty, remember that God can make the hardest, most stubborn things yield to those who are devoted to him! God himself made death yield to Jesus, and God himself will make difficulties yield to us.”
