Life has Descended

(St. Augustine)

“For he did not linger, but hastened away,
crying out by his words and deeds, his life and death,
his descent and ascension,
crying out to us to return to him.
And he vanished from our eyes
that we should return to our own heart and find him there,
For he went away, and behold he is here.
He willed not to be long with us, and yet he did not leave us,
for he returned whence he had never departed,
because the world was made by him.
Since life has descended, will you not ascend and live?”

~St. Augustine (Confessions LV:12)
