Above the Tempest Shines the Light

(Above the Storm - found here)

“…Defects, passions, faults, the injustices of others purify you and liberate you from self-love.

In faith and humility, offer yourself to the chastisements of God and cherish His instruments. It takes little effort to fold and retreat when you are truly wrong. With Jesus Christ, accept to be unjustly mistreated with a peaceful and silent heart. All of your being revolts; your personal pride stiffens; your sensibility shudders. Above the tempest shines the light of Jesus: the servant is not above the Master.

To anything that perturbs you, impose faith and love upon it. It is here, in our cross; or rather, in the Cross that salvation resides. Offer yourself as a victim, your eyes fixed on Jesus bleeding, disgraced by His murderers, the sweat and the spit, etc. Bury yourself in mental prayer in the spirit of the beatitudes. You will come to judge all things like your Master, and all pains will become, for you, pleasure. ‘He who wants to follow after me, he will renounce himself, take up his cross and follow me!’ In truth, do you know another way?”
