Names (9/11 Tribute)

(September 11, 2001 - found here)

we gave the dust names

because the dust once had names

before the names became smoke

before the smoke became dust

and we washed the names

off our walls and windows

dumped the names

out of our vacuum cleaner bags



the garbage cans

we took to the curb

teemed with names

we watched

as they were hauled away . . .

. . . still trying to pronounce them
