Longing to Know God

(Found here)

“If we recall in prayer that God is infinite in his being, timeless, immutable—and exquisitely personal—these truths of the divine nature are bound at times to freeze our intelligence. The mystery of the divine nature flees beyond our mind. But it is only a portion of our mind that is overwhelmed. Another awareness, of adoration and prostration, is possible. An unfathomed goodness is present in a God who is infinite in his love. We need not ponder this truth with perplexity even as the notion of infinity in God will always vanquish our intelligence. It is true that any reflection we make can be only a paltry attempt incapable of grasping the divine mystery. The concealment of his nature always remains. On the other hand, something else takes place besides our realization that God is beyond our grasp. Our longing to know him is in itself a real entry into light. Our certitude of his goodness and love is not a forced assurance on our part. Not only is it profoundly correct, but God confirms this truth precisely by intensifying our longing for him.”
